Surgical Site Infections are the most common and costly of all hospital-acquired infections. Each year in the United States, 20 Million surgeries are performed. Each year, 300,000 surgical patients end up developing an SSI. Readmission due to the occurrence of SSIs significantly burdens the healthcare system. Valuable resources such as hospital beds and operating rooms are then used for the treatment of advanced surgical site infections, adding up to a net cost of approximately $7 Billion. This problem is even larger globally.
